Enrichment
Our Vision for Enrichment
At Bramley Oak Academy, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom. Enrichment plays an important role in helping pupils develop confidence, resilience, independence and social skills, whilst broadening their understanding of the world around them.
Many of our pupils learn best through practical, hands-on experiences. Through a range of enrichment opportunities, we aim to provide experiences that develop curiosity, encourage teamwork, build aspirations and support pupils to become active and responsible members of their communities.
Our enrichment offer complements the curriculum and supports pupils' personal development, helping them to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for life both in and beyond school. The enrichment framework for schools and colleges identifies five key areas of enrichment, and these areas help to shape and guide our provision at Bramley Oak Academy.
The Five Areas of Enrichment
Civic Engagement
Civic engagement helps pupils to understand their role within the school, local community and wider society. It encourages children to develop leadership skills, express their views, consider the experiences of others and make a positive contribution to the world around them.
At Bramley Oak Academy, this includes:
- Pupil voice activities
- Environmental awareness projects
- Opportunities to contribute ideas and opinions about school life
- Activities linked to Personal Development and PSHE
Developing our provision
Developing pupil voice, leadership and active citizenship is a key school development priority during 2026-27. We are working to strengthen opportunities for pupils to take on leadership roles, participate in decision-making and contribute positively to the school and wider community.
Arts and Culture
Arts and cultural experiences help pupils develop creativity, self-expression and curiosity about the world around them. They provide opportunities to explore new interests, experience different forms of creativity and develop confidence in expressing ideas and emotions. The enrichment framework for schools and colleges identifies arts and culture as an important part of a broad enrichment offer.
At Bramley Oak Academy, pupils access a range of cultural and creative experiences, including museum visits, theatre visits, whole-school art projects and creative workshops. Previous experiences have included drumming and DJ sessions, helping pupils engage with music in practical and accessible ways.
Nature, Outdoors and Adventure
Outdoor and adventurous activities play a significant role in life at Bramley Oak Academy. These experiences help pupils develop resilience, confidence, teamwork and problem-solving skills whilst building a connection with the natural environment. Opportunities to learn and succeed outside the classroom can be particularly valuable for many of our pupils.
At Bramley Oak Academy, pupils regularly take part in Forest School, Outdoor Learning and educational visits that allow them to learn beyond the classroom. We also work with Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development (SOLD) to provide high-quality outdoor experiences that support personal development, confidence and wellbeing. Alongside this, pupils have opportunities to participate in activities such as climbing, archery, Bikeability and farm visits, helping them develop resilience, independence and teamwork.
Sport and Physical Activity
Physical activity is an important part of promoting both physical and emotional wellbeing. Through sport and active experiences, pupils learn to challenge themselves, work cooperatively with others and develop healthy habits that can support them throughout their lives.
At Bramley Oak Academy, pupils benefit from a varied PE curriculum alongside opportunities such as climbing, archery, cycling and activities delivered through our partnership with Active Surrey. These experiences help pupils develop confidence, perseverance and enjoyment in being active.
Life and Future Skills
Developing independence and preparing pupils for the future is an important part of our work. Enrichment opportunities help pupils build practical skills, learn how to make informed decisions and develop the confidence needed to navigate everyday life.
Our Personal Development and PSHE curriculum provides opportunities for pupils to explore relationships, wellbeing and life beyond school. Activities such as cooking help pupils to develop practical skills, confidence and increasing independence.
We are committed to continually reviewing and developing our enrichment provision to ensure that all pupils have access to a broad range of meaningful experiences. During 2026-27, a particular focus will be on developing opportunities for pupil leadership, active citizenship, arts and cultural experiences, and partnerships with external organisations and community groups.
